FOOTBALL LEAGUE MATCHES - 2016

This is how Alder Coppice won the League!

St Mary’s CE – 8.3.16

Tuesday 8 March marked Alder Coppice’s first football fixture of the season. The match saw the team travel away to St Mary’s CE Primary School, Kingswinford. We enjoyed a bright start to the game and displayed some great attacking teamwork between Fabian, Lily, Kian and Alfie; all we needed to do was find the back of the net!  However, we did not have to wait long for that moment to finally arrive and we were soon 1-0 ahead. Another goal shortly after left us 2-0 up going into the half time break. Shortly after half time, we came under a bit of pressure but with some fine saves from Evie in goal and some good defence work from both Thaine and Nathan, we managed to maintain our clean sheet. It did not take us long to get back on top and, with Harvey joining the attack, we soon started to command the game.  The game ended with a 5-0 victory! A very positive start to the campaign and we look forward to the next game.

Church of Ascension – 22.3.16

Tuesday 22 March marked our second fixture of the season in a game at home to Church of Ascension Primary School. We took little time in taking control of the game and soon opened the scoring through some quick, attacking play from Nathaniel, William, Alfie and Kian. More quick play and the introduction of Fabian to the attack saw us lead 4-0 at half time. In the second half, we continued to attack effectively and, with Thaine, Nathan and Evie defending well to maintain our clean sheet, we finished the game as outright winners with the score 8-0. Another great performance providing the quality we have within the team.

Dawley Brook – 19.4.16

Our first fixture back after Easter marked another successful result as we entertained Dawley Brook Primary School at the start of what was to be a busy week. The team took no time in asserting their authority in a game which saw us dominate the play and come out 11-0 winners. The result saw hat-tricks for Kian, Fabian and William and two goals for Nathaniel, while our defence of Nathan, Thaine and Evie in goal managed to hold out for another clean sheet. Fantastic team play and looking positive for our remaining games.

St Chad’s – 21.4.16

The sun was shining for our second fixture, of what was to be a very busy week of football for the team, as they travelled away to St Chad’s Primary School. After adapting to what was a tricky pitch to play on, the team soon got into their stride and started to continue in their fine scoring form, managing to win the game 9-0, which saw Nathaniel and Fabian both score one goal, William and Alfie both score two goals and Kian score three goals.

St Benedict Biscop – 22.4.16

Our last fixture of the week saw us play at home to St Benedict Biscop Primary School. The game saw our defence tested on a number of occasions, but through some very effective play from Thaine and Nathan, and Evie making some fine saves, we had still yet to concede a single goal this year. Once again our attack was on form and we were finding the goal. The game saw Alfie both start and finish the scoring, Nathaniel score another two goals, Fabian score an amazing four goals, and an unfortunate own goal from one of the opposing defenders to see us finish up as 9-0 winners and looking good going into our final two fixtures.

Maidensbridge – 25.4.16

In what we knew was going to be a tough match, our penultimate game saw us entertain Maidensbridge Primary School, who themselves were so far unbeaten this year. The game started positively for us with an early goal from a corner, only for the opposition to quickly react and pull the scores even to 1-1. This may have been the first goal we had conceded this year but Alder Coppice this did not dishearten Evie, Nathan and Thaine, and some good attacking play from Kian, Alfie, Fabian, William and Nathaniel, saw the team respond positively and, before long, open up a 4-1 lead. However, two very quick goals from Maidensbridge meant that they were clawing the game back with the score 4-3. Despite the panic from the teachers on the side lines, the team responded calmly and professionally and they soon regained their quality to finish by outplaying and outclassing the opposition, winning the match 7-3. The win meant that we were now just one win away from securing the league title, with everybody involved buzzing for the final fixture.

Cotwall End – 26.4.16

Our final league fixture proved to be as much a battle against the weather as it was our opposition, Cotwall End Primary School. Despite the snow, hail, sleet and rain the team were determined to finish the year with a quality performance. Some early attacking threats saw William V, Nathaniel, Fabian and Kian all go close before William H gave us a goal lead going into half time. Although the opposition threatened a number of times, Evie once again proved herself unbeatable in goal and Thaine and Nathan kept out some good attacking threats. The team continued to play fantastically throughout and finished up winning the game 4-0, meaning that they finish the year unbeaten and the Dudley School’s Mixed Primary League, District 1, champions! Fantastic performances all round and a huge well done to all of the children involved!
