Anticipation was high as Alder Coppice’s footballers were up and running again competing in the Brierley Hill and Dudley School's FA Primary League, District 1.
We could not have wished to get off to a better start than with a commanding home performance against Blanford Mere Primary School. The team started the season very brightly, finishing the game 14-0 winners.
The next match, playing away against Maidensbridge Primary School, was a rather tighter affair. Both teams created and defended good chances but early in the second half Maidensbridge managed to take the lead. However, the team did not allow this to phase them and fought back scoring two very good goals to finish the game as 1-2 winners.
Our third match of the year saw us once again play at home, this time hosting Cotwall End Primary School. In a game that saw Alder Coppice create a lot of chances, the team continued with their positive start to the season, this time winning the game 5-1.
The fourth game of the season saw the team host St Mary’s CE Primary School. The game proved to be rather a tricky one with St Mary’s managing to score a few goals without reply in the first half. Alder Coppice did manage to get one goal back but unfortunately dropped their first points of the year, losing the game 1-5.
The final game of the year saw the team play away at Church of Ascension Primary School. The team knew that nothing less than a win would be good enough to put ourselves in with a chance of winning the league. Despite the previous game, everybody came together well and learnt from previous mistakes. Soon Alder Coppice found themselves playing with the quality that had brought them so much success previously and the team ended up winning the game 0-3.
So once again Alder Coppice finish the year top of the league! A huge congratulations to all of the children involved and a big thank you to everyone who has been and supported us over the campaign!
